We share tips on wedding venues that we have filmed at, and those which should be on your list of option

We have been filming weddings in Italy for many years, having covered the length and breadth of this beautiful land. Time and again we are asked to create wedding videos on Lake Garda, a great choice as an alternative to the famous, but somewhat overbooked Lake Como. Lake Garda close to the Verona and Bergamo airports presents as a beautiful crystal blue lake surrounded by olive orchards, rows of tall cypress, vines and lemons. It is often sunnier and less congested than Lake Como.

4 Breathtaking Wedding Locations on Lake Garda, Italy

Torre San Marco, Gardone Riviera, Lake Garda

Pushed to make a choice, we’d say Torre San Marco is a good one as not only is it a wedding videographer’s dream location it is also superbly designed considering the needs of a wedding party and guests. This wedding location has much to offer as it is perfectly positioned on the lake edge, is historic and charming. The spaces are generous and both your ceremony and wedding reception are possible given the manicured green lawn with lake view alongside the open-air seating perfect for pre-wedding milling or canapes after the wedding ceremony. Your wedding reception would be in a marquee with capacity of up to 250 guests (smaller is also possible) which overlooks the lake and is covered in fragrant, trailing jasmine. Nearby five-star luxury accommodation for your wedding guests is plentiful: Grand Hotel Fasano, Hotel Villa Fiordaliso a Relais and Chateau Hotel, and Hotel Bella Riva would be our top choices.

A boat landing is possible here: skippered speedboats for hire give you the option to arrive at your wedding in a classic Italian speedboat – makes for an incredibly romantic and elegant arrival at your wedding.

We experienced the delicious cuisine prepared by the hotel on the property, top notch, generous, unforgettable are words we use to describe the wedding dinner.

Jordana and Mario from Cyprus chose Torre San Marco for their wedding day

Isola del Garda, Gardone Riviera, Lake Garda

Another wonderful choice especially for its photo and video wow factor is Isola del Garda with its 18th century grand villa and manicured Italian and English gardens. It is the only wedding venue of this type on Lake Garda and offers the couple choices ranging from the most intimate elopement to a larger scale wedding with up to 120 guests. The symbolic or civil ceremony is held in the architecturally impressive Venetian style loggia under a frescoed ceiling whilst overlooking the clear waters of Lake Garda.

Reception choices are two, depending on the number of guests. We recently filmed an elopement such an intimate and personal experience it was for them. They motored in separately on two classic Italian speedboats and after, departed together with prosecco-filled crystal flutes in hand as the sun started to descend and the day’s heat abated. We were privileged to have captured their romantic elopement on video, and it will stay with us forever.

This may by now seem obvious to our readers, but a boat landing is possible here: skippered speedboats for hire give you the option to arrive at your wedding in a classic Italian speedboat – makes for an incredibly romantic and elegant arrival at your wedding. The same goes for the departure and the drone video footage possibilities here are majestic! In this case the wedding party departed from and returned to the charming lakeside town of Sirmione, around a 40min boat ride in good weather! Closer options are the various departure points from Gardone Riviera. To note: boat skipper adjusts his speed accordingly, so trip times could vary.

Scaligero Castle, Malcesine, Lake Garda

A sight that takes your breath away, this ancient fortress built at a time when battles took place on the lake between the Venetians and Lombards still stands today and is known as the Scaligero Castle. A charming wedding venue dramatic in its presence provides a great opportunity to have a spectacular wedding ceremony in a very special place. High up on the battlements is the terrace where guests witness you sharing your wedding vows. From this vantage point your wedding party overlooks the crystal blue waters of Lake Garda with dramatic mountains as a backdrop. This is also the perfect place for a more intimate wedding or an elopement as lends itself to a small to medium gathering. Spectacular scenery here is what one wants in a wedding video, this location offers it in spades.
